The Stanley Tools company was founded in 1843 by Frederick Stanley. It was then partnered with two men named Duncan Black and Alonzo Decker in 1910. By forming this partnership, little did these men know that the tool company they had created would become a powerhouse and a household name in the tool industry.
Although the Stanley Tools and Black and Decker Tools company does make some great tools aimed at the professional consumer, the brand is more tailored to the general consumer and home craftsman for light duty use and around the house repair. Although they are adequately durable enough to handle all of your minor home improvement projects.

The reason for this is because many of the tools in the Stanley Black and Decker lineup are made with plastic gears instead of metal alloy that professional grade power tools utilize.
Don't get me wrong though, I have owned a number of Stanley Tools as well as Black and Decker branded tools over the years and they have for the most part been very durable and reliable. Just don't expect them to be able to take the same kind of abuse that its professional grade counterparts will endure.
The price point of these tools are great. They would make a great addition to a person's collection for the entry level carpenter just learning the trade and are perfect for most home repairs. If you are just needing a reliable set of tools on hand for the occasional home repair, Stanley Tools and Black and Decker Tools fit the bill perfectly.
The build quality of Stanley and Black and Decker tools are excellent considering their intended uses. I have no problem recommending either of the brands, considering they are both made by the same parent company.
Just be sure that you are aware of their intended uses and their limitations and you will not be disappointed. On the other hand if you purchase a Stanley or Black and Decker branded tool and expect them to match the durability and quality of a Bosch or Dewalt, you will be let down.
