Even though Delta faucets have been in use for nearly sixty years they still have that modern look that will definitely update the appearance of your bathroom or kitchen. If you need to replace the faucet, simply because it is old or because it has developed too much corrosion, with a Delta faucet, all you really need to do is replace the interior mechanisms, which is surprisingly easy. First step is to turn off the water supply to the faucet and let the remaining water drain from the tap. Pry off the cap from the top of the faucet with a screw driver and turn the center screw with an Allen wrench or a Phillips head screwdriver. The screw will turn counterclockwise and is there to secure the handle to the faucet stem.

The faucet handle will come straight off with a slight tug. Place the new handle over the stem until it seats correctly and secure the set screw, push the cap back on until you hear a click and you have successfully changed your handle.
If you have a lever type handle, the process is a bit different. You will find the set screw on the faucet body, pointing away from the faucet. Remove the set screw and pull the handle off of the body. Insert the glide ring into your new handle, making sure it is seated properly. Once it is seated properly you can slide the faucet handle over the stem until it also seats correctly and replace the set screw.
While you are inside the faucet handle there are several other, preventive maintenance things you can do to extend the working life of your faucet. Inside the assembly you will find a rotary ball. This is attached to the stem and directs the water flow. Check the ball for any scratches or cracks. There are also two black rubber gaskets and two springs that should be changed as well. You can purchase a Delta faucet repair kit at any hardware or home improvement store and the kit will have all the parts you need to completely rebuild your faucet and get many more years service from it.
